Halo Effect Hanna's mom, Ashley Marin, is an excellent example of the halo effect, "If you meet someone who is physically attractive, you might decide that this person is also charming and intelligent, and thus socially attractive" (13). Ashley is a strong willed, single mother, who supports her daughter in every way. Unfortunately, she hits a bump in the road. Ashley starts out the show portraying great examples of the halo effect. She is an attractive single mother who has to work for what she wants. Later in the show, "A" framed Ashley and made it look as if she had killed the attractive Detective Wilden. Thanks to "A", Ashley got taken to jail for this. She lost her job and Hanna was now on her own. Ashley was eventually released from jail, but because of her previous social life and the friends she had made, she was able to receive a job right away as a real estate agent for Ali's mom, and was able to get back to pursing the halo effect.
Romeo and Juliet Aria and Ezra's relationship was a surprise for everyone in the beginning, including Ezra's mom. The "Romeo and Juliet" effect is the perfect explanation as to how they felt after telling his, and not having the best support. "Parental interference can strengthen attraction between two people" (14). That is exactly what happened with Ezra and Aria. Ezra's mother, Dianne Fitzgerald, has Ezra's life planned out. Without Ezra knowing, Dianne tried to secretly pay Aria to break up with him, just so he could pursue the life she wanted him to have. To say the least, Aria was not going to fall for that. When Dianne found out that Ezra might have gotten Maggie pregnant right out of high school, she paid Maggie to keep her son out of Ezra's life so he would not get distracted and could keep going down the path (12). This intrusion that occurred with Ezra's mother, led to Aria and Ezra to become even more in love.
