Relationship Building
Close Relationships
The clip below, shows the return of Toby, Spencer's boyfriend. The video displays great examples of what a close relationship looks like. Toby and Spencer have their fair share of ups and downs, but they always seem to resolve their problems and come back together. As defined in the text, "Close relationships have features of interpersonal relationships plus three more: emotional attachment, need fulfillment, and irreplaceability" (18). When Spencer sees Toby through the reflection of the poster, it feels as if her heart stops, and the little piece that has been missing, has been discovered. As they run into each others arms, it is evident that there is a sense of irreplaceability. Toby reassures Spencer that everything is going to be okay and that there is no need to apologize for anything. |
First Date
The expectations for dates are variable for many people. Some think the man should always be the one to ask the woman out on a date. This follows the rules of the twentieth century. In the twenty-first century, the "rules" are more lenient. Guerrero states, "Although it is now much more acceptable for women to ask men out than it was in the early to mid-20th century, the standard dating script still puts the man in the initiating position" (19). Aria decides to break the rules of the twentieth century. Below, is a clip of her method on how she asked Ezra out on a date. She does it in a way that keeps it secret, yet it is still creative and puts a smile on Ezra's face. She may have have been a little scandalous by unzipping her sweater and showing the tie saying, "wear me", but, it is evident that Ezra enjoyed it and appreciated the activity she chose. |
