He's Freaking A!
Feeling like your body has been taken over by a monster is not a pleasant feeling. According to Lane, Neural Hijacking is what is actually occurring (21). It feels as if someone or something has taken over your body. This could lead to completely losing control. Spencer has a couple of moments throughout Pretty Little Liars where she loses her mind. In the following clip, she starts out calm and collected, but that does not last for long. The girls start to question her because they are concerned about her health. As they get deeper into conversation, it is very evident that Spencer starts to become impatient, eventually losing her temper. Pay close attention to her facial expressions from beginning to end as they also show her change in emotion. |
"Oink Oink"
Hanna has had many problems with her image. Daniel Goleman's book, "Emotional Intelligence", is about the physiological responses that we have to certain situations (20). Fear and sadness are some of the more depressing responses that we have. Unfortunately, Hanna shows signs of these in the scene that I have provided. In the beginning, Hanna's facial expression says it all. "A" had been the one to send her to get cupcakes in the first place. As she walks out of the bakery with her box of half a dozen cupcakes, she sees Noel and the lacrosse team. She drops her head and sadness covers her face. Little did she know, the gifted cupcakes were decorated with pigs. While she eats the cupcakes, she starts to have flashbacks of her Hefty Hanna stage. In this flashback, the doorbell rings and you can see the fear take over Hanna. She does not want whoever is at the door to know she had finished a whole pie. She panics and tries to hide it by running the remains to the garbage. Ali enters the kitchen before Hanna is able to successfully throw the pie crumbs. You can feel Hanna's heart drop as she sees Ali's perfect body stroll into the kitchen. The flashback led to more sadness of her past which then led to her eating more of her pig cupcakes. The lacrosse team chose to sit down at the table next to Hanna's which did not help the situation. They stared while she ate the cupcakes and would repeatedly say "Oink oink" to her. In my opinion, Hanna deserved those cupcakes for everything she has gone through! |
