Conversations and Self Disclosure
Self Disclosure
In recent episodes of Pretty Little Liars, Ezra and Aria have been having some problems. In the beginning of their relationship, they told each other everything; there seemed to be no secrets. Unfortunately, Aria found out some devastating news about Ezra.
According to our text, "Self disclosure is when people reveal something about themselves others" (16). Risks are associated with this; fear of exposure or rejection being one of them, "Sometimes people worry that too much self-disclosure will expose their negative qualities and cause others to think badly of them" (17). Ezra clearly displayed that a fear of exposure or rejection was what was on his mind because losing Aria was the last thing he wanted.
The girls have been on a hunt to the identity of "A." Spencer finally came to the conclusion that Ezra, was in fact, "A." It took some convincing from Spencer, Hannah, and Emily, for Aria to believe that Ezra was the one that had been following them. Aria snuck into Ezra's cabin, finding a book that he had been writing all along. The main reason Ezra held back all this information was because he had actually fallen in love with Aria. He knew that if he was exposed to Aria and her friends, he would have been rejected right away, which is exactly what happened.

Dominance
Mona can be quite the character. She will get on the girls' good side on certain days, but most of the time, she is on their bad side. When Detective Wilden was murdered and Hanna's mom was taken to jail, Mona and Hanna became closer. Hanna wanted Mona to teach her how to lie and tell the cops that she, Hanna, was the one to kill Detective Wilden. She knew her mom was not the one to kill Wilden, so she was willing to do anything to get her out of jail. But, before Hanna was able to lie to the officers, Mona decided to get on the girl's bad side.
Dominance is one of the characteristics that Mona shows. It is evident that she feels she has power over Hanna, Emily, Aria and Spencer. She feels she is able to do whatever she pleases. These actions can be presented verbally or non-verbally (15). Mona is a pro at displaying her behavior in both ways.
Before Hanna was able to confess that she was the one to murder Detective Wilden, Mona went behind her back and confessed to doing it to get back at the girls. In the following clip, Mona shows her power in a quick manner. As she is sitting down to get questioned from the police, she sends a smirk out the window to the girl's. That action said a million words, and conveyed the message to the girl's that she knew, somehow, she would win.
