Elderly, Loss and Grief
Friendships over the Years
Thanks to "A", in Pretty Little Liars, death is an act that occurs more than it should. Alison's death is the main death, or so everyone thinks. The study that we considered explained how diverse relationships are very important in one's lifetime (26). People get the chance to be around a varied array of people, which allows them to learn and teach. In the clip, Jenna steps up to talk about Alison at her memorial. She goes on about how strong Alison was and what a great friend she had become. The other girls continued to look at Jenna with disgust. This goes to show that Alison had put herself out there to meet other people and make new friendships. Even though Alison's close friends did not approve, Alison continued to pursue the friendship while still alive.
According to Erikson's Psychosocial Model, during the teenage years, the main concerns are friendships, identity, and life direction (26). The girls in the show are at the prime time of this stage. They are always hanging out and supporting each other. In the video, the girls talk about Alison and their friendship with her. At this memorial the girls sit together and comfort each other which is the perfect example of maintaining friendships. If the girls would not have formed those friendships, they would not have the bond that is between them today. Also, if they all would have known Alison separately, then the memorial would have been different because they would not have each others shoulders to cry on.
